This study was written in 1938 in Genoa, Italy, but for many reasons its publication had to be withheld until the present time. We wish herewith to thank: Dr. E. Servadio of Rome for his help during our work, Mr. E. Kriss to whom Dr. E. Jones of London sent this study in 1939, for having read it and advising the publication, and Dr. A. A. Brill of New York, who read it, made suggestions, and helped us introduce the study to the American Psycho-analytic Press.
