This is a first novel, apparently by an Englishman. The author prefaces his book by a dictionary definition of Schizophrenia. He then narrates the story of a young and somewhat slavish young man in love with an attractive girl who does not reciprocate his love but rather uses him shabbily. The characters are of a superficial, drinking set. Finally he kills her in her apartment by submerging her in a bathtub. He then kills her lover with a well aimed blow of a golf club. He ends his own life by taking gas. The story is graphically told and the turpitude is entirely credible. The style itself shows no unusual distinction.
