A drive to improve mental hospital services in the U. S. and Canada will be sparked by a Mental Hospital Institute to be held in Philadelphia April 11-15 under American Psychiatric Association sponsorship, Dr. William C. Menninger, APA President, announced.
Tantamount to a 5-day “postgraduate course”, enrollment in the Institute is open to public and private hospital staff members, and to doctors and laymen in the U. S. and Canada. Formal announcements are being mailed to Governors, Lieutenant Governors, Federal and State hospital administrators, and to other interested groups. The Institute will be under the program direction of Dr. Daniel Blain, APA Medical Director.
The fee for enrollment in the Institute will be $50, Dr. Blain said. “This is not just another conference”, he explained. “It is a workshop. Outstanding authorities on mental hospital problems will lead the instruction. All who attend will have opportunity to participate in the discussion.” A roster of instructors and other program details will be announced shortly.
Anyone wishing to attend should communicate with Dr. Daniel Blain, Medical Director, APA, 1624 Eye Street, N.W., Washington 6, D.C.
