This small volume presents a discussion of the emotions from a philosophical standpoint and attempts to construct a new theory of psychological interpretation. The classical theories of William James and of Janet and the psychoanalytic concepts are given some attention as a prelude to the author's “Sketch of a Phenomenological Theory”. To those used to thinking in terms of the other frameworks, this sketch will be rather confusing and the reasoning will seem unclear and unduly complicated in places. It is interesting reading and thought provoking.
