This volume contains a series of letters advising Jane, the daughter who is at college, on relationships with men, sexuality, etc. The letters are the result of such a true relationship between mother and daughter,
but many other contacts with younger and older people have gone to fill out the letters. For the most part the advice is of a practical nature. No attempt is made to examine world trends and their meaning. The volume therefore should be helpful to mothers advising their daughters and to daughters of high school and college aid and interests. The design is essentially protective. The title of the chapters run the gamut of such problems, “What Price Petting?” “Is it Smart to be a Virgin,” “I Resent my Mother,” etc. Contraception is somewhat soft-pedalled and although the ‘dreadful’ effects of venereal disease are mentioned, there is no evidence that the author knows of modern highly successful preventive and therapeutic measures possible in this direction.
