This is a story of the lives, private and professional, of a group of physicans in Toronto, Canada. An introductory note goes as follows: “Certain living people are referred to and described in this novel. Likewise certain institutions. There has been no attempt made to hide their identities. Apart from these, all characters and organizations dealt with or mentioned in any way are purely fictional.” The leading characters are gynecologists.
It is an exceedingly well written novel revealing the contrasts in personality organizations and many of the motives behind the surface expressions of various traits of character.
The book terminates rather abruptly in the middle of complex situations like the serial installments of a magazine article or similar to the Western serials of the cinema, leaving one in suspense. There is to be a sequel entitled Toronto Surgeon which will pick up the story where Toronto Doctor ends. Doctors and their wives will find it entertaining reading.
