This is the third volume of Dr. Spiegel's annual review of progress in neurology and psychiatry. As with previous volumes, individual subjects, of which there are 37, are each dealt with in separate articles by different authors. A wide variety of subjects is covered, including the basic sciences, clinical neurology, neurosurgery, and psychiatry, and a chapter on psychoanalysis. All of the chapters are written unusually well from the point of view of reviewing the literature and integrating the material. For the most part, the expression of partisan attitudes has been avoided, though without leaving the presentations too disjointed. There is enough organization so that the book can be read seriatim. The index is fairly full so that the work is also quite useful for reference. The book is recommended for all workers in neurology and psychiatry. [Mortimer Ostow.]
