Just before the end and after the turn of the century, scientific curiosity about sexual manifestations led to the publication of a number of papers and books on sexuality by Moll, Bloch, Ellis, Freud, Birschfeld, von KrafftEbing, Stekel, and others. Incidentally, the authors dedicate their book to the above pioneers. These earlier volumes contained abundant case material about many individuls. In the past twenty years they have been advertised to professional readers. The present volume continues in the tradition of understanding and liberalism, considering that the majority of individuals at one time or another have engaged in practises which previously had been set, arbitrarily, as abnormal. Since the Kinsey report, however, the old norms have been found to be incorrect statistically. To have repeated what has been said would have been no contribution, but the authors do make a contribution in bringing these sexual manifestations in line with modern psychology, especially the psychoanalytic. There is a good balance of historical, case, and analytic material. The chapters cover history, homosexuality, incest, exhibitionism, frottage, sadism and masochism, fetishism, transvestism, coprophilia, urolagnia, zoophilia, and other deviations. The third part is devoted to General Discussion, and Therapeutic and Sociological Aspects. The volume terminates with a glossary, a bibliography and an index. The foreword by Nolan D. C.
