The classic textbook has now been reprinted, after having been out of print for some years. It is essentially the same volume as issued since appeared in 1916 in German. It still remains the finest clinical psychia-1924 by Macmillan Company. There is added a portrait of Bleuler, together with an interesting but all to brief, biographical sketch of the famous Swiss master by the research librarian, Dr. Shatsky, of the New York State Psychiatric Institute who also adds a selective bibliography of Bleuler's more important writings. Several generations of budding psychiatrists have cut their psychiatric eye-teeth on this text since it first appeared in 1916 in German. It still remians the finest clinical psychiatric text in any language and with Bleuler's recently translated monograph on “Dementia Praecox” available to English speaking readers, we are in possession of the two major contributions of this great physician. No American psychiatrist should ever have to be accused of lack of familiarity with these basic works. One must be grateful to the Dover Publications for re-issuing the textbook and keeping it alive. One can only regret that the rough spots of Brill's translation were not eliminated.
