This is a book of vast range dealing with matters of contemporary interest as well as with those of past years. Bertrand Russell is justly noted for his writing of philosphy after the manner of scientist, and this extensive work presents over a thousand of his definitions, statements and opinions selected from his numerous books and papers and classified alphabetically for ready reference.
Lord Russell has thought, spoken and written about many things including ethics, religion, mathematics, history of philosophy, systems of logic, science and national and international political affairs. He is always thought provoking and progressing toward the frontiers of knowledge, and this “dictionary” affords a liberal sampling of his understanding in many areas and problems. It is obvious that this collection of brief extracts taken from a large bulk of writings cannot express completely the whole philosophy of the man, but the reader will become oriented and well paid for the time spent in either browsing or reading it through.
