This book was written by an industrial and statistical psychologist on the staff of a life insurance company. It gives priority to personality questionnaires, interview techniques and rating scales, i.e., to methods of low degrees of validity which however are simple, are easy to use in group studies, and do not require much training. The two chapters on the modern personality tests, the Rorschach and the Thematic Apperception tests, are quite inadequate, omitting many essentials but giving many nonessentials. The emphasis was placed again on the easiest aspect: a review of the content of the responses. Knowledge of the most frequently used statistical formulae is assumed. The content of the studies which are reported is entertainingly summarized. The methodological procedures involved are presented briefly, but on the whole quite adequately.
