The Board of Editors is pleased to announce that the Clement Staff Memorial Award of $300 has been offered in equal division between Kenneth Burke for his essay “The Thinking of the Body,” Felix Deutsch for his essay “Analytic Posturology and Synesthesiology,” and Sidney Halpern for his essay, “Free Association in 423 B.C.” Critic, philosopher, translator, Mr. Burke is the subject of a recent study by William H. Rueckert, Kenneth Burke and the Drama of Human Relations, published by the University of Minnesota Press. Mr. Halpern, a frequent writer on cultural themes in psychoanalytic reviews, is President of the Plymouth Mutual Life Insurance Company in Philadelphia.
Mrs. Deutsch, the widow of Dr. Felix Deutsch, has instructed us to convey his award to the Felix and Helene Deutsch Fund, which was created by the Boston Psychoanalytic Society to encourage psychoanalytic research among the younger generation of analysts.
The Clement Staff prize for the best clinical or theoretical paper is awarded yearly in memory of Clement Staff, former editor of Psychoanalysis, which merged with the Review in 1958.
