André Haim builds a logical case for his thesis that we can learn much about adolescent suicide through the analysis of resistances which stand in the way of true understanding, or indeed the desire for it, whereas little else is reliable at the time of writing. Who is resistant? Society in general, and therefore representatives of diverse viewpoints on the subject; parents, educators, and other responsible for adolescents; mental health professionals; and adolescents themselves. To what are they resistant? The adolescent experience; the death tendencies within, or their near equivalents, tendencies toward regressive fusion; and adolescent suicide.
