In reviewing the literature on perversions for the purpose of understanding a case of what seemed to be a possible perversion in a women patient (Richards, 1989), I read the work of Phyllis Green-acre on fetishes. Contrary to her usually meticulous scholarly habit, Dr. Greenacre (1955, 1960) twice mentions a case in the literature without giving a full citation. Bak (1974), in a passage reflecting on Greenacre's work, actually cites this paper, by Hermine Hug-Hellmuth, in German. Colleagues I asked about the paper were interested in it because Greenacre and Bak mentioned it, but regretted that they had never read it. The case and the paper in which it was reported have remained unavailable to those who could not read German. My translation follows.
As most of the literature on foot fetishism ordinarily concerns men, I am induced to report a case, though not to analyze it, of a female boot fetishism. Although it was almost 12 years ago, I recall it well because it was often spoken of in ray circle of friends without our being aware of the true nature of this peculiarity. It concerned a then 30-year-old women who had been married to a general-staff colonel.
