john Montague: I would think, and I am sure you'd agree, that the most profound of all the emotions we have is love. It seems to be summed up at the end of the Divine Comedy when Dante is looking at the whole universe gathered in the hands of God, gathered up into one volume of love:
In the abyss I saw how love held boundInto one volume all the leaves whose flightIs scattered through the universe around; How substance, accident, and mode uniteFused, so to speak, together, in such wiseThat this I tell of is one simple light.Yet, as a wheel moves smoothly, free from jarsMy will and my desire were turned by love,The love that moves the sun and the other stars.
