This Festschrift is in honor of Dr. Oscar Sternbach
To honor Oscar Sternbach is to pay tribute to a man who represented a particular current in psychoanalytic history. He represented the Renaissance man who imbued psychoanalysis with a very particular culture. His was the culture of intellectual sensibilities that encompassed a wide range of disciplines. Oscar Sternbach belonged to a genre of nonmedical psychoanalysts who bequeathed to the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis (NPAP), the first nonmedical psychoanalytic Institute in the United States, a tradition of knowledge and richness in psychoanalytic content. To these early analysts, we owe the development of the art and science of psychoanalysis.
As Editor, I hope that the articles selected reflect the wide range of Oscar Sternbach's interests as well as his agreements and disagreements.
