We are sad to announce the passing of Dr. Tony Pipolo, Editor of The Psychoanalytic Review, on March 27, 2023.
Tony Pipolo was a man of knowledge and dedication, and he brought these qualities to his work as Editor. In addition to his psychoanalytic areas of expertise, he was an expert, and recognized as such, in his appreciation and understanding of films. He was Professor Emeritus of Film and Literature at the City University of New York (CUNY), and his publications include Robert Bresson: A Passion for Film , which won the Siegfried Kracauer award for excellence in film criticism, and The Melancholy Lens: Loss and Mourning in American Avant-Garde Cinema . Tony's knowledge was broadly based: when we discussed some poems that I had published, his sensitivity to and mentioning what was not said equaled his appreciation for what was said.
