This is the second in a series of papers on the professional identity of social work-psychoanalysts, based on the findings of the “MPI” Project, an empirical study of social work and psychologist-psychoanalysts. In this report, the professional activities of MPI analysts are surveyed. The data demonstrate that social work-psychoanalysts devote themselves to professional activities that are virtually indistinguishable from those of psychologist-psychoanalysts. Both social work and psychologist-psychoanalysis spend most of their professional lives and derive most of their earned income from the private practice of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. With few expectations, social work-psychoanalysts performed no traditional social work roles.
