Working with dreams adds scope and depth to the process of brief psychotherapy. Four case examples are offered, along with a selective review of the literature, to illustrate the impact of their use on every therapeutic task in every phase of the process. When the therapist accepts the inevitability of limitation and incompleteness, she can work with the patient to find the point where the reported dream connects with the therapuetic task of the session. Doind so takes the “rayal road” to inner life and engages the person's growing edge in the work.
