We are proud to announce the launching of a new journal feature, “Clinical Case Reflections.” The goal of this section is to create a clinical forum for detailed presentation and dialogue regarding various aspects of the process of psychoanalytic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. Our readers are encouraged to send in case studies, papers that describe individual work with adults, adolescents, and/or children in long-term or brief psychotherapy, once weekly treatment, intensive psychotherapy, or multiple session psychoanalysis. These case studies need not have the goal of putting forward original ideas; the intent need only be a wish to share the psychoanalytic experience with other clinicians. Preference will be given to papers that focus on clarifying and learning from puzzling clinical situations.
Once an author's case study has gone through a peer review process and is accepted for publication, it will be sent to a colleague with clinical expertise in the particular clinical problem area or theme highlighted in the author's case presentation. The respondent will then prepare a discussion of the paper, and these two pieces-clinical case presentation and discussion-will be published as companion manuscripts. Readers are encouraged to continue the dialogue with letters to the editor.
Case study publication guidelines:
Only original, previously unpublished contributions are welcome.
To avoid breach of confidentiality or privacy, or the violation of professional ethics, authors are required to (a) disguise patient identifying information, and (b) have the patient sign a publication release. To uphold patient confidentiality, this release must remain in the possession of the author into perpetuity.
Case studies, between 18-25 pages, should follow APA format for references and footnotes, in keeping with the general publication policy of this Journal.
Case studies should be sent in quadruplicate to:
