Commencing with this issue, Psychoanalytic Social Work will henceforth be published on a biannual basis. Before the appearance of our first issue in 1993, when Haworth's Publisher, Mr. William Cohen, and Senior Social Work Editor, Carlton Munson, invited me to serve as Editor, we agreed that Psychoanalytic Social Work should be published on a quarterly basis. In the meanwhile, some twenty-nine single issues and three monographs later, we have become well established as the voice of psychodynamic social work. For many years, PSW's incarnation as a clinical quarterly appeared to us to have been a sound decision, defensible on the grounds of both logistics and scholarship. However, it is also true that our Journal is a specialized one, so that we have not always enjoyed a consistently high rate of manuscript submissions. In more practical terms, we have increasingly felt pressured to relax our high editorial standards, in order to accommodate to the sometimes less-than-optimal rate of submitted manuscripts.
After considerable reflection and discussion, we have decided that the best interests of this Journal and its readership are no longer served by publication on a quarterly basis. In order to maintain the highest standard of scholarship for all of the papers we publish, we have decided to shift from a four-times to a twice-yearly schedule of publication. Everything else will remain the same. We will continue to publish papers and essays that focus on clinical, theoretical, and research issues, applied psychoanalysis, and book reviews, int. al. Our Clinical Case Reflections feature, which has generated such a positive response from readers, also continues under Associate Editor Roberta Ann Shechter's able guidance.
Sometimes, less is more. We sincerely hope that our readers will agree.
