Emre Kapkın was the coordinator of the first regular and systematic translation program of Freud's works into Turkish [Payel Freud Library] and the translator of majority of these works. He describes, in this article, the conditions under which this translation activity develops referring to the social conditions in the background. He also shares personal motivations in this initiative and the general Freud perception in Turkish culture and literature at the time. He provides the reader with a brief history of these translation activities which have an important place in the fermentation of psychoanalysis in this region. (ed)
