Prominent Turkish writer Adalet Ağaoğlu starts by questioning why she might be feeling enthusiastic about writing this essay despite her strong unwillingness to write lately. The first reason, she says, could be her desire to get acquainted with something new, psychoanalysis: “We take shelter in memories to understand the present, it is our childhood that takes our future by the hand”. A second reason could be the “provocateurs” who triggered her desire to write, one in a positive and the other in a negative way. The negative trigger is her disappointment with the absence of women writers and women novel characters in discussions on women issues and enlightenment. On the positive side, there are promising works trying to get a deeper understanding of women issues through brilliant comparisons of prominent novel characters. (ed.)
