For Jacques Lacan the drive is not the pressure (Drang). The pressure is the discharge, but it is an internal excitation. He emphasized the ongoing nature of the drive and pointed out that the drive can not be equated with any one spesific object. For him, the object of drive is a hollow, an empty and it is not representable: it is the “object small a”. So the drive is an assembly which is characterized by a discontinuity and lack of rational logic.
