The only purpose of drive is satisfaction. This satisfaction follows the path that goes from autoerotic form towards the object. In this sense, the object has a vital function which allows drive satisfaction. This article is an attempt to first define the concept of object in terms of psychoanalysis, and then to review the discovery process of the object. Some of the themes that are discussed are, the discovery of the first object accompanying the arousal of sexual drives in the baby, the object loss, autoerotism, the emergence of oedipal objects, latency and refinding of the object in adolescence. The types of object choice are also mentioned.
