The first cases in the history of psychoanalysis were hysteric cases. Thereby hysteria is the first area of investigation in psychoanalysis. Just like the cores of psychoanalytic theory, the theory of neuroses has taken shape during the efforts to cure hysteria. This article is an attempt to investigate hysteria on three axes via the psychoanalytical theory. The first axis is Oedipal conflict and the identification problem in relation to it. The article mainly dwells on this axis. The second axis is repression as the main defense mechanism of hysteria and the third axis is conversion.
