Only a part of the libidinal drives belonging to the analyzand's love life can reach consciousness and attain full development. The other part of the libidinal motions are repressed and exist as unconscious fantasies. These are the motions that are transferred to the analyst and related to the analyzand's relation to the parental imagos. During analysis the libido regresses to the unconscious aspects of the infantile complexes and re-invests them. The reactivation of these unconscious motions revives the passion of infantile drives. Freud situates the transference love in the frontier of pathology and relates its compulsive quality to infantile sexuality. This is the reason which impedes the rememoration of the repressed infantile scenes. The analyzand reproduces them instead of remembering them. However, thanks to the repetition, the analyst can grasp in the “here and now” the elements of the infantile conflict.
