According to Freud, what makes psychoanalysis incomprehensible for the receptor is an affective rather than an intellectual difficulty. Universal narcissism suffered three great vexations from the part of scientific research to date: cosmological, biological and psychological. Two clarifications of psychoanalysis -namely, that the impulsive sexuality in us is not to be wholly mastered and that spiritual processes are themselves unconscious- are equivalent to the statement that the ego is not the master in its own house. Together they constitute the third attaint to the self-esteem named as psychological vexation by Freud. It is not astounding thus that the ego does not attribute much consideration to the psychoanalysis and obstinately refuses to give it any credence.
