The human being relates to sound very early; it starts during the intra-uterine life, the fetus is enveloped by a sound bath. The fetus hears his mother's voice and also her body's sounds. Mother's voice is an important element of the continuity between intra-uterine and extra-uterine life. For French psychoanalyst Didier Anzieu “voice envelope of the self” is a part of the “skin-ego”. Anzieu describes how the mother talks to her baby while she is breastfeeding, handling and holding him. The relationships established by the voice can also explain to us the importance of music as a rhythmic sound in human life. During the development of the newborn's language, it is also important that the parents mimic the baby's voice. It is called “baby talk”. Language is the product of mutual imitation between baby and his environment.
