Catherine is a young girl who suffers from anorexia and whose intelligence has been “exploited” by her environment, resulting in a splitting between the emotional and intellectual aspects of her self. She suffers from a compulsive mental activity, that manifests itself by thoughts and doubts. Her intense intellectual activity allows her to protect herself from a chaotic environment and by that means she transforms the chaotic environment into a predictable and reliable one. The therapeutic experience permitted her for the first time to be listened to and recognized for what she was, without the need to prove her intelligence.
