After having presented the meaning and the roots of the word jealousy in the first part of the paper, the place of jealousy in psychiatric and psychoanalytic psychopathology is discussed. Sigmund Freud's approach to jealousy is examined in some of his works, followed by an emphasis on Daniel Lagache's Jealousy in Love. Then the author focuses on Melanie Klein's differentiation between envy and jealousy. Last of all, the place of jealousy in Jacques Lacan's theory is discussed.
