One of the aims of psychoanalysis is rewriting history. But what happens when this history is a door opening to dark times of genocides is it possible to symbolize the experience? How is it possible to endure such a pain that cannot be named and represented? Can the history which is to be endured be owned and transformed? Is it possible to symbolically transmit the pain that cannot be represented? This paper is an effort to think on these questions over the genocide in Dersim in 1938. It emphasizes the importance of witnessing, and to look through the eyes of the people who have lived those days in order to understand the pain and destruction. In order not to repeat the destruction it is necessary to remember and confront. Thus the symbolic instruments that are presented by literature and cinema, just like myths, play a crucial role in creating a collective memory and live the intolerable pain by leaning on the existence of the other.
