These lands have been molded with historic massacres, atrocities, torture and other human degrading violent incidents. Even though historically or on an jurisdictional level the responsibilities get “lost”, charges /accusations “lapse” or what has been lived through seems cancelled, in psychoanalysis, it is the opposite; nothing is ever “lost”, nothing “lapses” nor it is “time barred” in the unconscious. Accordingly, just as we speak of transgenerational transmission of trauma, we can also talk about transgenerational transmission of guilt. Freud mentioned a borrowed sense of guilt and unconscious ownership of guilt. He even stated that this unconscious ownership could be traced to identifications (maybe the only way of protecting the libidinal bond) with previous generations and objects. In this text, the transgenerational effects of what has been lived in these lands will be explored through conceptualisations such as; unconscious ownership of guilt/feelings of guilt, transgenerational transmission of guilt, negative fetish/monument.
