Charlotte Beradt published “The Third Reich of Dreams” in 1981, where she depicted dreams that she collected in Germany during the Nazi fascism period (1933-1939). These dreams give us important clues as to what the effects of an oppressive regime are on the individual's psychic life. It is beyond doubt that the aim of an ideology that is fed by violence is to abolish private life. Everything and everyone is spied on. However, dreams and sometimes phantasies are maybe the only means that the individual psyche can hide from the fascist. In an external reality dominated by violence, dreams can sometimes create internal psychic scenes where it is possible to express the wish of a long-awaited peace and silence.
