In this article Silvia Resnizky makes a comprehensive description of the supervision process, in its different forms, describing the supervisor, as a virtual third participant, operating in the analyst's mind as a symbolic mediator. She states that in the process of the construction of the analytical identity, the search for supervisors and the creation of spaces to revise clinical material are extremely important. The supervisory framework and its process constitute a setting which is conducive to the transmission and understanding of psychoanalysis and its practice, providing a bridge between the public and the private setting. In this sense, supervision stands neither within nor outside but “in between” the psychoanalytic process. She also emphasizes the importance of clinical working groups as well as self-management supervision groups to provide the possibility to enhance the solidarity between the members and to build fraternal links.
