Shakespeare presented interactions between hysterical, obsessive and depressive characters in the “Merchant of Venice”. He demonstrated how traumas caused by humiliation lead to revenge. The adaptation of the play into the movie, which was directed by Michael Radford, is very impressive and the acting of the artists is very good. The psychoanalysis of revenge, interactions between different groups, the roles played by their leaders during these interactions, the psychodynamics of stigmatized minorities as scapegoats of society are investigated by means of the movie. Relations between self and identity are examined at the last part of the article.
