This article is about the choice of love object in adolescence, the discovery of genital object, its effects on the psyche and what is unpredictable in this regard. It calls special attention to homosexual object choice. At the beginning of adolescence, the pubertal genitalization of the body leads to the resexualization of object relations, and calls back Oedipus on the psychic scene. But this Oedipus is different from the Oedipus in childhood to the extent that physical maturity turns incest and parenticide into actual possibilities: this is pubertal Oedipus (Gutton). It is only the Superego (internalizing the double taboo of incest and parenticide) that objects to the realization of the Oedipal phantasy. Thus, the gratification of the genital drive is only possible through the definite resignation of Oedipal objects. The condition for unmitigated accession to genital sexuality is this resignation, which is in fact a fallic defeat.
