Freud interpreted anxiety with satisfaction of drives and past experiences. He demonstrated the importance of the father for creating and calming anxieties in the case of Little Hans. Although interactions are different for girls, the father has still a determinative role. This paper discusses the place of anxiety in replacement, sublimation, destruction, autoerotism, identification with and separation from the mother, the entrance of the father representation into the child's psyche, fulfillment of primary needs to eat and love, and the envy that arises from the paternal hunger.
