Each transition in life; from birth to weaning, starting school to beginning a professional career, getting married, becoming parents to retirement and old age, all require one to deal with different kinds of anxieties. Growth and development in itself brings about anxieties and each phase even if one is looking forward to it, challenges previous ways of being. This paper especially aims to discuss primitive anxieties in the early period of life, during infancy, focusing on the theory of Freud, Klein and Winnicott. Furthermore, vignettes from an observation of an infant will be presented.
