During the psychoanalytic session, the analyst and the analysand are subject to various kinds of anxieties. The analyst's anxieties should not be overlooked as they can cause the interruption of the cure. Following the work of D. W. Winnicott we propose that the analyst should have a “primary preoccupation” which should cease as the analysis of the analysand progresses. To do this, the analyst in training must be supported sufficiently by his training analyst.
