Destructiveness and creativity follows each other in many contexts. Maybe they are the two faces of the same entity, like Shiva; the god who destroys with the aim of creation. Envy is easily connected with destructive feelings. However, is it possible to think about it with productive outcomes? Various meanings of envy are discussed along with a clinical vignette and it is proposed that if difficult feelings of envy such as shame, pain, aggression etc. are worked through properly, it is possible that envious wish -to be same as the other, to have what other has- transforms into a motivational force to create and produce. Instead of attacks on or destruction of the bonds, new ways of bonding are formed by accepting the sameness/difference of the other.
