Regression according to Freud has three dimensions: topical, temporal and formal. Several analysts after Freud, notably Balint and Winnicott insisted on the importance of regression during the analytical session. It is true that the analytic cure provokes a tendency to regression, but on both sides of the work. This approach to the analytic situation has given birth to several concepts such as reverie and figurability. Bion talks about reverie and Sara and Cesar Botella talk about figurability. In this article the author through the concept of regression tries to show the convergences and divergences between French psychoanalysis and British psychoanalysis.
