We know that Sigmund Freud was an excellent literary reader from an early age. Literary texts inspired him to develop many psychoanalytical concepts, among them, the Oedipus Complex. The aim of this article is to show, by following in Freud's footsteps, that the communal texts we read shed light on our understanding of psychoanalytic concepts in the context of the compulsion to repeat. ın Beyond the Pleasure Principle, published 100 years ago, the compulsion to repeat is defined, and its connection with the death drive is explained. The novel, The ınvention of Morel, by Adolfo Bioy Casares, published 80 years ago, provides a perspective that will help us re-evaluate and develop our thoughts and understanding of the relationship between the compulsion to repeat and the death drive.
