The founder of psychoanalysis and one of his most beloved colleagues are presented regarding their personal relationship as well as the longterm effects their work has had on psychoanalysis. Dichotomies which dominate the development of any humane science came to be represented by each one of them. Freud advocated the strict scientific approach. His efforts focused on elimination of subjectivity and on rules able to guarantee the uniform application of the method. The effectiveness would follow the reliable application of the method. On the other hand, Ferenczi gave primacy to the effectiveness of the method relying heavily on the human nature of both analyst and analysand. Honest openness and sincerity are in his approach the basic tools to guarantee the successful outcome of the method. Both of them enriched psychoanalysis and paved the way for the coming generations to further develop psychoanalysis.
