In this paper, relation of children with animals is studied, taking Marie Bonaparte's book Topsy as the starting point. Children's view of animals as their equals without any arrogance lead them to place animals in their life as guardians and as figures of identification and projection. Contrary to children, arrogant view of some adults is considered as a defense against losses which humans have experienced during civilization process. These ideas are illustrated through Annie M. G. Schmidt's book Tow-Truck Pluck.
