In many countries, infant observation seminars are one of the required training modules in child and adolescent mental health, psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. This training process contains two main parts. One is weekly observations of a baby’s psychical and emotional development as well as establishment of relationships with parent and others at home and the other is weekly seminars where each time an observer presents his/her observation to the group for discussion. This training experience has countless benefits such as; the trainee not only gains the ability to understand the nonverbal behavior and play activity of a child but also has the chance to develop his/her capacity to think about the child who does not talk or play. Thus he can better see the infantile experiences of a child, adolescent or an adult patient or can have a healthier evaluation in a parent interview or family work about how a particular parent perceives his/her child. In this paper, you can find detailed information about the method, process and challenges of these training seminars which are based on learning from experiences philosophy.
