Based on the discussion section of Freud's “Analysis of Phobia in a Five-Year-Old Boy”; Shame, autoeroticism, penis as a discriminating element, ambivalence, touch and “lumpf (faeces) symbol” are discussed. While evaluating the subject of shame, the issues of privacy and secrecy are mentioned. First the discussion on autoerotism at the meeting on “Problems Related to Infantile Neurosis” at the New York Institute of Psychoanalysis in 1954 then findings of Spitz and Winnicott on autoeroticism are analysed. The answer to the question of “Who has a widdler?” has been answered in terms of its place in the differentiation of generations, genders and mother-son. Ambivalence has an important place in both psychological development and psychopathology, and Freud saw it as a fundamental phenomenon. Besides the ambivalence of little Hans, it is necessary to consider the ambivalence of his parents.
Under the heading of touch; The pleasure of touching, the taboo of touching, Hans's effort to maintain his connection with his penis, his mother's holding function and his father's internalization as superego are mentioned. In many of his writings, Freud focused on faeces as a symbol and investigated its meanings. In this case, castration anxiety caused by Hanna's birth must have supported Hans’ phantasy of anal reproduction.
When the “widdler” phenomenon, which his mother could not describe, became clear, Hans regressed to reveal the poop issue and the phantasies of the baby in the box. He had wanted to work on it with his father, but his father got difficulty about it. Although there were some improvements and castration anxiety decreased with the help of the analysis made with Freud, the problem of incest and inability to separate from the mother had continued. Little Hans was very strong evidence to the theory of infantile sexuality for Freud and it is still a very a efficient source to study the dynamics of infantile sexuality for us as well.
