The article Rethinking “Symbiosis” consist of four parts. The first part, titled Symbiosis with theory, focuses on “symbiosis” with theory of psychosis. Alexandridis underlines that “symbiosis” supports him and enables him to withstand the psychic burden of the therapeutic relations. In particular, it focuses on his need for a thorough study of the theories of pathological “symbiosis”. In the second part, titled Archaic and Archeology, the writer argues that the reconstruction of early traumas through the therapeutic bond is not a discovery of the archaic of the patients psychogenesis but rather a discourse on it, hence a kind of archeology. The third part, Revisiting “Symbiosis”, provides a critical discussion on the three main theories of “symbiosis” proposed by M. Mahler, D. Meltzer and Fr. Tustin. In the fourth part, Reframing “Symbiosis”, the writer presents his reflections on the need to reframe the concept of “symbiosis” through some fundamental concepts of psychogenesis, such as auto-erotism, narcissism and subjectification.
