Adolescence, from a psychoanalytical perspective, is a decisive turning point leading to adult psychic organization. During this period, mental and physical processes are disrupted on the one hand and reconstructed on the other. The reconstruction of the subject in adolescence leads to the emergence of the ego through the body, as a new body. This will lead to the symbolization of identity, and therefore the sexual identity in a new way. It takes a multi-layered effort for sexual identity to find its bearings. In this article, the construction of “gender” and “sexual identity” in the social order are discussed together with the construction of the ego in adolescence within this multi-layeredness. (ed.)
