In the early period when the baby is born, the mother and the baby are as one. The mother maintains the illusion that they are one for her baby for a while. A series of psychological steps are necessary for the child to experience the mother as an object separate from itself, to place the mother in the external world. The mother has to be able to gradually disappoint her baby and stop acting as an object under the control of her baby. The father is positioned as the father of the child as well as the lover of the mother. Thus, he paves the way for the mother to remember her own femininity. In addition, he prevents the mother-child fusion in the oedipal period and prevents the violation of basic prohibitions. In this sense, the father's role is not only to remind the mother of her femininity, but also to remind the child that he is a child and that there are generational differences. This article focuses on the mother-infant relationship and the father's function of gradually forming a triangle and giving the child an opportunity to position itself in the real world.
